DILI, www.news-viptv.com – In order to strengthen bilateral cooperative relations, the President of Timor-Leste, Jose Ramos-Horta, accompanied by the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, Bendito Freitas, paid a state visit to Maputo, Mozambique, 3 to 6 July 2024.
During this state visit, Timor-Leste and Mozambique have also signed 3 collaborations, namely the establishment of a permanent mechanism for diplomatic political consultation, education, science and technology, and oil and gas (hydrocarbon and petroleum exploration).
The memorandum of understanding on cooperation between the two countries was signed by the Ministers of Foreign Affairs of the two countries, namely Bendito Freitas (Timor-Leste) and Verônia Mocamo (Mozambique), Friday (5/7/2024), at the Maputo State Palace.
“Other topics discussed include education, health, agriculture, human resource development, including multilateral cooperation at the United Nations level and other multilateral organizations where Timor-Leste and Mozambique can help each other,” wrote a press release received by the editor. from the Timor-Leste Presidential Office, Saturday (6/7/2024).
President Ramos-Horta in his state of the nation address expressed his gratitude to Mozambique for its support in the process of Timor-Leste’s struggle for independence.
The Head of State praised the former President of Mozambique, Joaquim Chissano for his dedicated efforts in fighting for the case of Timor-Leste on the international stage.
“Ramos-Horta recalled how Mozambique provided accommodation for Timor-Leste students and diplomats during the years of struggle, even providing passports to facilitate their international travel and advocacy work”.
Going forward, President Ramos-Horta called for expanding cooperation between the two countries in various fields, including education, diplomacy and global issues such as climate change and sustainable development.
