Timor Leste Government Entrusts Chinese Company to Build Electric Substation Worth USD 22 Million

DILI, www.news-viptv.com  – The Timor-Leste government led by Prime Minister Xanana Gusmão has entrusted the construction of electrical substation and 150kV transmission line project worth USD 22 million to the Chinese company TBEA Co., Ltd.

TBEA Co., Ltd, formerly known as Tebian Electric Apparatus, is a manufacturer of power transformers and electrical equipment and a developer of transmission projects.

The 15-month-long construction of Electrical Substation and the 150kV Transmission Line project will be built in Dili City, precisely in the Fomento II area, Comoro.

The construction of this project was marked by the laying of the first stone by PM Xanana and the Chinese Ambassador to Timor-Leste, Wang Wenli, Thursday, January 9, 2024.

Ambassador Wang said that it’s really happy to welcome the “good start” of the cooperation between China and Timor-Leste at the beginning of 2025.

“Chinese companies have been rooted in Timor-Leste’s power industry for many years, who ensures the safe and stable operation of the power system and lights up thousands of homes in Timor-Leste. I wish this new project will proceed smoothly with guaranteed quality and benefits all Timor-Leste’s people,” Ambassador Wang said on the official website of the Embassy of Chinese in Timor-Leste.

The Prime Minister assessed that the construction of this new substation can strengthen the technology system, commercial activities, industry for every home and state institution, school, especially the provision of quality electricity for hospitals.

“Electricity must be guaranteed if there is a problem that must be resolved immediately. That is what we are doing today,” said PM Xanana.

On the same occasion, Minister of Public Works Samuel Marcal explained that this project is urgent because the population has continued to grow. Therefore, to strengthen the electricity network in Dili.

In Dili, many hotels need electricity and in the future many investors will come in to make investments, so electricity becomes an important thing. Therefore, this construction will take more than a year to complete so that it is not 100% complete, but to minimize the problem of power outages in Dili and other places.

The main purpose of building the substation is to help balance the distribution of electricity in Dili City, especially in the western region, which is also an alternative to ensure the availability of electricity in maintenance or damage to the substation. The construction and installation project of this substation consists of three units with a capacity of 120 MVA each, with consultants including the SCADA System. In addition, a 150 kv transmission network with a distance of five km, double circuit.

The implementation of this project is based on a feasibility study that has been carried out over the past year by Amythas JV and PT. Hexa Integrasa Eleica and Caiulu Unip, Lda.
