Helping Vanuatu Earthquake, Timor-Leste Gives USD 2 Million

DILI, www.news-viptv.com  – The Timor-Leste Government has disbursed USD 2 million in aid to the Vanuatu Government to rebuild public facilities destroyed by the 7.4 SR earthquake that rocked Port Villa, the capital of Vanuatu on December 17, 2024.

The Timor-Leste aid was decided through a meeting of the Council of Ministers proposed directly by Prime Minister (PM) Xanana Gusmão, on Wednesday, January 8, 2025.

“The 9th Constitutional Government through a meeting of the Council of Ministers approved the government resolution proposed by PM Xanana regarding aid worth USD 2 million to the Republic of Vanuatu,” wrote the government’s official press release.

The United States Geological Survey reported that the Vanuatu earthquake occurred 30 kilometers west of Port Vila, at 12:47 local time (10:47 Timor-Leste time), with a depth of 43 kilometers, said the United States Geological Survey (US).

This earthquake caused 23 fatalities, and 200 were declared injured, and destroyed the central hospital, as well as two (2) clean water supply facilities.
