news-viptv.com, DILI – The Government of Timor-Leste has received assistance with a total of 575,000 doses of AstraZeneca vaccine provided by the Australian Government.
The last rock of 300.00 doses was handed over directly by the Australian Ambassador to Timor-Leste, Peter Robert and received directly by the Prime Minister of Timor-Leste, Taur Matan Ruak through a handover ceremony held at the National Pharmacy of Timor-Leste (SAMES), Kampung Alor , Dili.
“Today, for the first time, we get 300 thousand (dose) in one go. On behalf of the government, country and people, I would like to express my gratitude to the Australian government, especially my friend PM Scott Morrison,” said PM Taur in his speech, Wednesday (11-08-2021).
The Australian government has pledged 1.5 million doses of AstraZeneca vaccine to Timor-Leste and currently the government has received 575,000 doses.
These vaccines, complemented by Australian technical assistance, will boost Timor-Leste’s national vaccination rollout across all 13 municipalities, including remote and hard-to-reach areas.
Australia’s partnership with Timor-Leste in responding to COVID-19 extends beyond vaccine doses. The deployment of an Australian Medical Assistance Team (AUSMAT) has supported the country’s capacity to deal with up to 1,000 moderate, severe and critical cases at isolation facilities across Dili. In addition, Australia has assisted with the establishment of COVID-19 testing capacity at the National Health Laboratory, training of over 1,600 frontline health workers, and delivery of critical medical supplies, including oxygen, PPE and medical equipment.
Apart from Australia, Timor-Leste also received free aid from the Governments of Japan, New Zealand and Portugal.
To date, based on data published by the Ministry of Health of Timor-Leste and WHO, a total of 449,967 doses have been administered to the people of Timor-Leste with details of 331,523 for the first dose and 118,444 for the second dose.
The vaccines used by the government of Timor-Leste are AstraZeneca and Sinovac.
